Bertha Jane Nickelson Hammer

July 11, 1946 – October 12, 2014, died at her home in Stillwater, Oklahoma early Sunday morning, October 12,2014, after a long illness with MS. She was proceeded in death by her father Lad Nickelson, her mother Rebecca Rodgers Nickelson, her brother James Louis Nickelson and her husband of almost fifty years, Lawrence “Larry” Harold Hammer.

Jane was born in Franklin, Texas on July 11,1946. She graduated from Franklin High School with honors in 1964. Later, Jane graduated from Sam Houston Teachers College (Sam Houston University) with honors in Business Education. She met Larry at college. They married in the Franklin First Baptist Church in 1966. They both worked and studied at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Jane received her PhD from Indiana University in Business Communications.

Jane and Larry, with their PhD’s in hand, began their academic careers at Oklahoma Sate University. Jane is remembered as a lovely person, willing to help others with solutions to successful careers. Jane was a faculty member until ill health forced her to resign in the early 990’s. She and her husband built a lovely home on the outskirts of Stillwater with special emphasis on handicapped access for Jane. She remained in her home with her faithful caregivers and special friend Gail Ramary, until her death.

Jane chose life each day that was given to her. She was a brave woman with a warm and generous personality. She and her smile left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
