Joseph Charles Gallagher III, 62, of Hearne, TX, passed away on 01/21/2014, at his home, surrounded by family and friends. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home. Sam Closs, a close family friend, spoke at services, which were officiated by Reverend Gary Roe with Hospice Brazos Valley. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home on Thursday, January 23. Burial followed the funeral at the Bryan City Cemetery.
Joey was born in Bourbon, Missouri on July 21, 1951 on his grandparents’ farm. He was the middle child of Dr. Joseph C. and Elaine Gallagher. He graduated from Hearne High School in 1970 and continued his education at Kilgore College after graduating high school. He loved working outdoors and being with good company. He retired from Texas Department of Transportation in 2000 after serving as an Engineering Inspector, but less than a year later, in 2001; he went to work for the City of Bryan as an Engineering Inspector. He recently retired after 12 years from the City of Bryan in August of 2013. Joey was married to Laura Newland Gallagher on May 11, 1975; they were married thirty-nine years. Joey enjoyed working on his land and taking care of the livestock that he was raising. He was also a volunteer firefighter with Hearne Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years, as well as a member of the Robertson County Go Texan Committee. Joey was named a Lifetime Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo prior to his retirement from the Go Texan Committee.
Joey was preceded in death by his parents.
Joey is survived by his wife, Laura Gallagher, of Hearne; a son, Adam, and daughter-in-law. Sara Gallagher of Bryan; a grandson (also known as his little buddy), Ryan Joseph Gallagher of Bryan; sisters and a brother-in-law, Sandra Jones of Calvert and Debbie and David Warrington of Palestine, Texas; many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or to Robertson County EMS.
