Wylie was born on October 1, 1932 to Perry Steele and Lillie Mae (Shockley) Johnson and raised in the Willow Creek Community. After graduating from Franklin High School he joined the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1957. He married in 1954 and moved to Houston, working his entire career as a Buyer for Transcontinental Gas and Pipeline. Weekends and vacations were spent in Willow Creek doing what he loved most, being in the country and running cows. His first marriage ended after 10 years and he married Camilla Hope Conley August 5, 1965. He obtained his dream in 1980, retiring early from Transco and moving to the country. During the following years, he enjoyed the peace of the land, his cows, and was a helping hand to those around who needed help with equipment or calving. In 1987, he had an accident that resulted in a spinal cord injury, and the following years he did as much as he could as his body weakened. His mind was sharp and he liked to listen to books, watch sports, drink his coffee and smoke a cigarette.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Camilla and his daughter-in-law, Nicole. He is survived by his three children: Steve Johnson and children Todd, Cody and Hope of Franklin, Valerie Johnson and son Matt Lawson of Marquez, and Deb Vinci and husband, John; their children Erin and Carey and his great grandchildren, Maya, Adelaide and Iris, all of Raleigh, NC.
